The hills are lush and green again, and birdsong fills the air. Volunteers working alongside scientists installed trail cameras, documenting the first mountain lion sighting in the area on March 26. It was spotted again just two nights ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1-19.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2095\" srcset=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1-19.png 640w, https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1-19-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why the Wildlife Is Returning<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kristen Ochoa, a professor at UCLA, leads the effort to track the recovery of nature. She believes that the return of wildlife is a positive sign, offering hope to those who suffered during the fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2-21.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2096\" srcset=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2-21.png 640w, https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2-21-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ochoa, a long-time Southern California resident, began the Chaney Trail Corridor Project in July 2024 to monitor the biodiversity of the area. She used iNaturalist, a network of citizen scientists, to share findings from the area before the fire occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/3-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2097\" srcset=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/3-17.png 640w, https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/3-17-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Recovery After the Fire<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the fire, much of the area was scorched, and all of the trail cameras were lost. However, Ochoa and her team quickly rebuilt and began documenting the area\u2019s recovery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2099\" srcset=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-5.png 640w, https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-5-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While many parts of the area were burned, some areas remained untouched, providing refuge for wildlife while the flames swept through the rest of their habitat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Resilience of Nature<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ochoa recalls the experience of returning to the area right after the fire \u2014 the sound of birdsong was overwhelming.
