<\/p>\nDavid Foster opened up about welcoming a new baby in his 70s with wife Katharine McPhee.<\/p>\n
The 72-year-old musician, who shares 1-year-old son Rennie with the 38-year-old singer, told People magazine that becoming a father again at his age was \u201cnot something\u201d he expected but added, \u201cI haven\u2019t regretted a single day of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve loved every single day,\u201d the 16-time Grammy Award winner told the outlet.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cIt\u2019s the standard thing of like, \u2018Oh, well, you were so young when you had your children and you were working day and night, you never saw them.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd there is some truth to that, sadly, for my [older] kids. I was just working a lot. Even though I\u2019m working a lot now, I\u2019ll cancel anything just to hang with him. It\u2019s just different.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rennie is the sixth child for Foster and the first for McPhee. The record producer, who was previously married four times, is also father to daughters Alison, 52; Amy, 49; Sara, 41; Erin, 40; and Jordan, 36.<\/p>\n
Foster and McPhee tied the knot in June 2019. The \u201cSmash\u201d alum told People she \u201choped\u201d to have a child with Foster but acknowledged that there were \u201cno guarantees.\u201d<\/p>\n
In December 2020, McPhee confirmed speculation the couple was expecting their first child together when she posted an Instagram photo showing off her baby bump. The pair welcomed Rennie in February 2021.<\/p>\n
On Father\u2019s Day this year, McPhee shared a slideshow of photos featuring Foster, including an image of the Canada native holding Rennie while seated beside her on a couch.<\/p>\n
\u201cHappy Father\u2019s to the man @davidfoster who loves me like I could have only dreamed of & who made me complete in life by making me a mommy,\u201d she wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n
McPhee continued, \u201cI love our little family. I love our big family. You have NEVER complained over how your life is slightly different now. Well\u2026 you only complain that you can\u2019t stay up late watching TV in bed but how can I blame you -that\u2019s your favorite thing.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve only made bringing Rennie into the world an absolute joy for me. To many more adventures baby!\u201d<\/p>\n

Foster told People that he and the \u201cOver It\u201d singer \u201cknow we\u2019re an unconventional couple\u201d but they are certain that they belong together.<\/p>\n
He pointed to C\u00e9line Dion and her late husband Ren\u00e9 Ang\u00e9lil, who also had a significant age gap.<\/p>\n
The \u201cMy Heart Will Go On\u201d singer was 12 when she first met Ang\u00e9lil, who was 38. He became her manager and the pair shared a close relationship which turned romantic when she was 19.<\/p>\n
They wed in 1994 and were married for 22 years until his death due to throat cancer in 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith C\u00e9line and [late husband] Ren\u00e9 Ang\u00e9lil, there was a big age difference, and after I was working with them for a long time it just became C\u00e9line and Ren\u00e9,\u201d Foster told the outlet.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt just looked and felt normal. But it was, of course, kind of odd in the beginning. But I think we\u2019re over that hump now with five years of being together, and hopefully people just start looking like we belong together because we feel like we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if they don\u2019t, we don\u2019t care,\u201d McPhee said. \u201cWe just love our history, how we met and where we are now. Sometimes we look at each other like, \u2018This is so wild that we\u2019re together.’\u201d<\/p>\n
McPhee and Foster first met in 2006 when she was a contestant on the fifth season of \u201cAmerican Idol.\u201d Foster was serving a guest mentor and helped McPhee practice for her performance of the Whitney Houston song \u201cI Have Nothing,\u201d which he wrote.<\/p>\n
McPhee said they \u201cstayed friends through all these years.\u201d They were first romantically linked in 2017 and got engaged after over a year of dating.<\/p>\n
The two recently collaborated on a seven-track holiday album titled \u201cChristmas Songs.\u201d In December, they will embark on a six-city tour in support of the collection, which is set to be released Nov. 25.<\/p>\n
McPhee joked that she \u201cguilted\u201d Foster into recording the album with her: \u201cI said something like, \u2018It\u2019s really crazy I\u2019m married to the greatest producer, basically of our lifetime, and I\u2019ve only had you record me on a few songs.\u2019 Then he said, \u2018OK, well, why don\u2019t we just do a Christmas album?’\u201d<\/p>\n
Foster said, \u201cI love that we can do everything together. We really do like being together.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe just said that to me the other night: \u2018We have so much fun together,\u201d McPhee added. \u201cIt feels like we\u2019ve been together 10 years \u2014 in a great way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Foster said that the couple isn\u2019t sure if Rennie will follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in music. However, he noted that the infant is already developing his musical abilities on the piano and the electronic drum pad.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe think [he\u2019ll be musical], but we don\u2019t know,\u201d Foster said. \u201cKids, strangely, will do something for a while and then it\u2019ll amaze you, and then they just drop it and they don\u2019t do it anymore.<\/p>\n
