\u2018Bridesmaid\u2019 star says she didn\u2019t know how to \u2018handle\u2019 situation at the time<\/h4>\n

Maya Rudolph recalled feeling \u201cembarrassed and humiliated\u201d during her first appearance on \u201cThe Late Show with David Letterman.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said my name wrong, and I just sat there\u2026I grew up my whole life in love with you, and now my heart is broken\u2026 I\u2019m sitting here embarrassed and humiliated,\u201d the \u201cBridesmaid\u201d star told WSJ magazine in an interview published Friday.<\/p>\n

The 50-year-old comedian continued to say she didn\u2019t know how to \u201chandle\u201d the situation at the time in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know how to come up with something funny to say. My public persona muscle wasn\u2019t strong yet,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

In 1999 Rudolph rose to fame while being a cast member on \u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d<\/p>\n

She opened up about her challenges while being in the spotlight, and confessed she struggled with interviews and red-carpet appearances.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would always feel like someone was stealing my soul,\u201d said Rudolph. \u201cThat\u2019s where, over the years, I created a persona to protect myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve definitely gotten much better,\u201d she remarked. \u201cWhen I\u2019m uncomfortable, I try to be funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Rudolph won her second Emmy for portraying Vice President Kamala Harris during her guest appearances on \u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her recent work includes voicing the Hormone Monstress, Connie, in Nick Kroll\u2019s adolescent Netflix show \u201cBig Mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

She will also star in the \u201cEnchanted\u201d sequel, \u201cDisenchanted,\u201d alongside actress Amy Adams in November.<\/p>\n

Despite playing several popular comedic roles during her career, Rudolph said she doesn\u2019t consider herself a celebrity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know I\u2019m a working actor and people know who I am, but I don\u2019t feel like a celebrity, because that word means something else today to me,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n
