Although the <strong>CHIMP Act<\/strong> (Chimpanzee Health Improvement, Maintenance and Protection Act), passed in 2000, mandates that government-owned chimpanzees be retired to sanctuaries, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) delayed relocating the remaining group, citing \u201cfrailty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-1341.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7857\" srcset=\"https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-1341.png 500w, https:\/\/topkeynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image-1341-300x203.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2019, organizations like the <strong>Humane Society of the United States<\/strong> led persistent campaigns, public petitions, and eventually filed a lawsuit against the NIH.
