<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nTimber Rattlesnake.<\/sup><\/sub><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n A teenager is recovering after he was bitten by a rattlesnake in the North Carolina wilderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Emergency crews responded to an area of Avery County on Monday, June 2, to assist \u201cwith the rescue of a hiker that had sustained a snake bite,\u201d according to a\u00a0news release\u00a0from North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zain Shah, 17, told\u00a0McClatchy News\u00a0that he was bitten around 5 p.m. local time on the banks of Lost Cove Creek while fishing with a friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Responding to NCEM\u2019s\u00a0Facebook post, the teen\u2019s father, Imran Shah, said the pair were on \u201ca fun end-of-high-school fishing trip\u201d in the western North Carolina mountains when his son was bitten by a timber rattlesnake \u201cdeep in the woods.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Zain, they \u201cwere about to turn back\u201d for the day when he \u201cfelt a prick\u201d near his foot as he \u201cstepped over\u201d a log, according to McClatchy News. Then, he spotted a rattlesnake sitting near him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At first, the teen said he thought, \u201cNo way that just happened” \u2014 but when he rolled down his sock, he saw \u201ctwo red dots and blood coming out\u201d of the wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI knew it was potentially deadly,\u201d Zain explained. Luckily, his friend\u2019s had phone service and they called 911 while attempting to return to the vehicle they arrived in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n About two hours later, a Black Hawk helicopter reached Zain and hoisted him to safety, according to McClatchy News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NCEM said multiple agencies responded to the call for help, including the National Guard, which provided the Black Hawk helicopter, as well as North Carolina Helo-Aquatic Rescue Team (NCHART) and the Charlotte Fire Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zain was then airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee, and received 12 vials of antivenom to treat the bite, according to McClatchy News. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The teen, who is set to graduate from Chapel Hill High School on June 14, thanked the crews who rescued him from his precarious position. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAll of them saved my life,\u201d he said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be here without the help of so many people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Facebook, the teen\u2019s father also said he is \u201cbeyond grateful\u201d for the \u201cincredible\u201d crews who saved Zain, who \u201cis now recovering at home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He added, “We are forever in your debt.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u201cI knew it was potentially deadly,\u201d said Zain Shah, who was hospitalized after the bite Timber Rattlesnake.
