It wasn\u2019t meant to be true. It wasn\u2019t meant to be a prediction; rather, it was meant to be a fun musing.<\/p>\n

However, here we are. Reading a list that is meant to be amusing and reflecting on stupid sitcom plots that were dumb and perhaps funny has resulted in a list of events that actually occurred in real life after a writer for a fictional TV show or film wrote down a scenario believing it could only occur in the bendy, flexible sitcom or film realm.<\/p>\n

Guys, reality is so fricking ridiculous. We don\u2019t need television or movies to make it seem more foolish. But here are some sitcom and movie plots that, regrettably, have completely materialized in the real world despite the fact that we all ought to have known better.<\/p>\n

1. The Simpsons<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a0The Simpsons<\/em>, in 2000\u2019s \u201cBart to the Future,\u201d newly elected U.S. President Lisa Simpson replaces former President Donald Trump. In reality, in 2020, newly elected U.S. President Joe Biden\u00a0replaced\u00a0former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

2. Seinfeld<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em>, the\u00a0puffy pirate shirts\u00a0that Jerry models are donated to the unhoused because no one wants them. In reality, Kanye donated his\u00a0\u201cWhite Lives Matter\u201d t-shirts\u00a0to the unhoused because no one wanted them.<\/p>\n

3. Jamie Tartt<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Ted Lasso<\/em>, footballer Jamie Tartt leaves his club to go on the reality show\u00a0Lust Conquers All<\/em>. In reality, Footballer Jamie Allen\u00a0left his club to go on the reality show\u00a0Love Island<\/em>.<\/p>\n

4. 30 Rock<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a030 Rock<\/em>, in a 2006 episode, Tracy Jordan does an\u00a0infomercial\u00a0for a kitchen appliance that makes meat the bread of sandwiches. In reality, in 2010, KFC\u00a0introduced\u00a0the\u00a0Double Down<\/em>, a sandwich in which the \u201cbread\u201d was two fried chicken patties.<\/p>\n

5. Up<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0Up<\/em>, Carl Fredericksen uses hundreds of balloons to lift his whole house in the air and travel to South America. In reality, a team of scientists and engineers tied 300 8-foot long balloons to lift up a lightweight house 10,000 feet into the air for a little over an hour, just to see\u00a0if they could make a Pixar movie real.<\/p>\n

6. Office Space<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Office Space<\/em>, the characters use a virus to electronically\u00a0embezzle\u00a0money from\u00a0Initech<\/em>\u00a0by stealing small amounts (like in\u00a0Superman III<\/em>). In reality, Micheal Largent opened 58,000 bank accounts and\u00a0electronically took money\u00a0from\u00a0Schwab\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0E-Trade<\/em>\u00a0by abusing their bank verification system, which had the companies make a small deposit into each one to verify them. He made thousands through small deposits (like in Office Space).<\/p>\n

7. Black Mirror<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Black Mirror<\/em>, British Prime Minister Michael Callow is forced to have sex with a pig on live television. In reality, years after the episode aired, Prime Minister David Cameron allegedly placed his genitals\u00a0in a dead pig\u2019s mouth\u00a0as part of an initiation ceremony at Oxford.<\/p>\n

8. Mad Men<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Mad Men<\/em>, in a 2013 episode, Don Draper pitches \u201cPass the Heinz\u201d as a slogan for\u00a0Heinz Ketchup<\/em>. In reality, in 2017,\u00a0Heinz Ketchup<\/em>\u00a0ran that ad campaign pitch\u00a0from the show.<\/p>\n

9. Never Been Kissed<\/h3>\n

In\u00a0Never Been Kissed<\/em>, South Glen High School student Drew Barrymore is actually a 25-year-old woman who finally\u00a0gets her first kiss. In reality, Harrisburg High School student Asher Potts is\u00a0actually\u00a023-year-old Artur Samarin (who finally gets his first jail sentence).<\/p>\n

10. Futurama<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0Futurama<\/em>, Zapp Brannigan mistakenly names Leela as\u00a0Miss Universe<\/em>\u00a03001. In reality, Steve Harvey\u00a0mistakenly named\u00a0Miss Colombia<\/em>\u00a0as\u00a0Miss Universe 2015<\/em>.<\/p>\n

11. Ted Lasso<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0Ted Lasso<\/em>, AFC Richmond\u2019s sponsor\u00a0Dubai Air<\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0owned\u00a0by a company that has caused major environmental damage to star player Sam Obisanya\u2019s homeland. In reality, Liverpool\u2019s sponsor\u00a0Standard Chartered<\/em>\u00a0is partnered with a company that has\u00a0caused major environmental damage\u00a0to star player Luis Diaz\u2019s homeland.<\/p>\n

12. Community<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Community<\/em>, in the 2014 episode \u201cApp Development and Condiments,\u201d the Greendale students create a dystopia after an app that allows you to review and rank actual people goes live. In reality,\u00a0Peeple<\/em>, an app that allows you to review and rank actual people,\u00a0went live\u00a0in 2016.<\/p>\n

13. Seinfeld<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em>, Jerry is hounded by Mr. Brookman, a\u00a0NYC Public Library<\/em>\u00a0investigator, over an overdue book that\u2019s incurred a $50,000 fine. In reality, a New Jersey native finally\u00a0returned\u00a0a book to the\u00a0Memorial Middle School Library<\/em>\u00a0that was 53 years overdue.<\/p>\n
