A Day on the Farm: Bringing Children Back to Nature Through the “Kids in the Outdoors” (KITO) Program

Kansas City, MO – As the early fall weather begins to cool, one of the most meaningful and anticipated events at the farm is about to take place: Kids in the Outdoors (KITO) – Nature Experience Day for Children.

The KITO event is a special occasion that brings 20 to 40 children, mainly from low-income areas or children from the COHV (Children of Homicide Victims) program in Kansas City, to the fresh natural space of the farm for a day filled with fun and experiences.

Here, children can try their hand at a series of exciting activities such as: fishing, horseback riding, archery, volleyball, outdoor cooking, and many other fun and educational activities.

This is not just a fun day out, but also an opportunity for the children to learn important life skills, foster a love of nature and practice team spirit.

“We feel extremely fortunate to have the facilities to host events like this. KITO is a special occasion that we look forward to every year,” – a representative of the farm shared.

The farm owners believe that living close to nature and working on the farm is where they have trained good qualities, a sense of responsibility and gratitude – things they want to pass on to the younger generation.

Not stopping at an annual event, the farm is planning to expand KITO to a quarterly activity starting in 2026, with the desire to spread more positive values to the community.

“We hope to reach and inspire more children – helping them discover a world they may not have experienced before.”

KITO is not just a day of fun, but a journey of connection – between people and nature, between generations, and between loving hearts.
