Former reality TV star Todd Chrisley revealed he “refused” to work during his time in federal prison and even enjoyed fast food, painting a starkly different picture from the harsh experience of his wife, Julie, who worked to afford basic necessities.
The revelations were made during the August 13 broadcast of the Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast, where the couple discussed their lives behind bars with guest Kandi Burruss, former star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
When Burruss asked if they were forced to do manual labor like picking up trash on the side of the road, Todd, who served his sentence at Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Pensacola in Florida, bluntly replied: “I went there to do time, not to do chores.”

“I refused,” he added, claiming he “managed [his] neighborhood” and adapted quite well to his confinement.
Meanwhile, Julie Chrisley shared a completely different reality at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. She noted that she went through a hard time, strictly followed the rules, and pointed out that her facility “had no air conditioning.”
Unlike her husband’s decision, Julie took a job at the prison’s commissary department.
“I wanted to make sure that I could order my shampoo and my body wash and makeup,” Julie explained regarding her decision to work. While they didn’t have high-end brands like MAC, she said female inmates could still buy drugstore products and found ways to wear false eyelashes and hair extensions in the prison environment.

The contrast between the Chrisleys’ prison stints became even more glaring when Todd brought up a shocking revelation from a July podcast episode. The former real estate mogul claimed he was repeatedly able to eat food from popular restaurant chains right on the prison grounds.
“I’ve had Chick-fil-A. I’ve had Burger King. I’ve had pizza. I’ve had Culver’s,” Todd stated.
Reacting to this, a frustrated Julie responded: “What did I have in prison? Absolutely nothing. I didn’t have a single bite of outside food for 28 months.”
Todd’s casual remarks about enjoying fast food seem to directly contradict previous allegations made by his own family. In September 2023, his daughter Savannah Chrisley spoke to the press, claiming her father was being held in “inhumane conditions” and facing retaliation from “corrupt” guards. Todd’s attorney also previously asserted that his client was being forced to eat expired food.
