Gracie Bon: Pilates Was a Nightmare for My Body

Plus-size model Gracie Bon is drawing attention after posting a TikTok video sharing her unpleasant experience in a Pilates class.

Although she embraces fitness and has a healthy, curvy body, she argues that Pilates is a workout that excludes people with larger bodies.

“Pilates isn’t made for us-not because we don’t try hard enough, but because it was never designed for bodies like ours,” Gracie stated.

Equipment Too Small, Exercises Not Inclusive

Gracie pointed out that the Pilates Reformer machine is far too small to accommodate plus-size bodies. “I sat down, and my hips overflowed the machine. It feels like it was made for someone under 100 pounds,” she said.

She added that the workout positions weren’t adjusted for her body, and instructors gave verbal instructions only-without any personalized guidance or support.

“I didn’t know what I was doing, and the class just kept going like I wasn’t even there,” she explained.

Feeling Isolated in a “Standard-Body” Environment

Beyond the physical discomfort, Gracie described feeling completely out of place in a room full of slimmer participants. “I was the only plus-size girl. People were staring at me like I didn’t belong there,” she said.

Advice for Plus-Size Individuals

Gracie emphasized that she encourages exercise for everyone-but not necessarily Pilates. “Do cardio, walk, run, get a personal trainer-there are thousands of ways to work out. But Pilates? I can’t recommend it for us.”

Her statement has sparked widespread discussion online, raising questions about whether the fitness industry is truly inclusive of all body types.
