The Chrisley Knows Best patriarch is opening up about the “devastating” loss of his daughter Savannah’s former fiancé, revealing the deep bond they shared until the very end.
Nearly two years after the tragic passing of Nic Kerdiles, Todd Chrisley is finally ready to speak his truth. In a raw and emotional episode of the Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast, the imprisoned reality star shared his profound grief over the loss of the man he didn’t just see as a former future son-in-law, but as a son of his own.
“He Was My Boy”
While the world knew Nic Kerdiles as the professional hockey player who was once engaged to Savannah Chrisley, Todd revealed that their relationship remained unbreakable long after the couple’s 2020 breakup.
“I don’t know that my heart will ever heal from the loss of Nic,” Todd admitted during the episode, his voice heavy with emotion. “People don’t realize that Nic and I spoke every single day. He was my boy.”

The 29-year-old athlete died in September 2023 following a late-night motorcycle accident in Nashville. At the time, the Chrisley family was largely silent, a move Todd now explains was born out of pure survival. “I haven’t spoken about it because it was too raw. It’s still too raw,” he shared.
A Bond Beyond the Breakup
In a revelation that highlights the closeness of their bond, Todd shared a poignant detail about his final days before reporting to prison: It was Nic who was by his side.
“Nic is the one who drove me to prison,” Todd revealed. “He was the one sitting in that car with me, crying with me, praying with me.”

The 56-year-old patriarch confessed that he had never given up hope for a reconciliation between Nic and Savannah. He admitted that he “prayed every day” that the pair would find their way back to each other, start a family, and give him the grandchildren he had envisioned.
Julie Chrisley Weighs In
Julie Chrisley, speaking alongside her husband, echoed the sentiment of loss, describing the difficulty of processing such a “senseless tragedy” while being separated from her family. She emphasized that while the public saw a reality TV storyline, their love for Nic was “as real as it gets.”
The couple made it clear that this podcast episode would be the only time they address the tragedy publicly. “We wanted to honor him, but we also have to protect what’s left of our hearts,” Todd said.
Moving Forward
For Savannah Chrisley, who has been vocal about her “unbearable” grief on social media, her parents’ public acknowledgement marks a significant step in the family’s collective mourning process.
As the Chrisleys continue to navigate their legal battles and time behind bars, the shadow of Nic’s absence remains a heavy burden. But as Todd put it: “Nic Kerdiles was a part of this family. Death doesn’t change that.”
