๐Ÿพ Missing Dog Reunites with Family After More Than 4 Years and Over 1,000 Miles Apart

๐Ÿ“ Vanished Without a Trace

In January 2021, Rome – an English Bulldog puppy – wandered away from his backyard in California and disappeared.

His family launched a tireless search: distributing flyers, knocking on doors, and even filing police reports. Despite their efforts, Rome was nowhere to be found.

๐Ÿถ Unexpected Discovery in Texas

In February of this year, Rome was unexpectedly found tied to the gate of Austin Pets Alive (APA)โ€™s Tarrytown location in Austin, Texas โ€” over 1,000 miles from home.

Alongside him was a small Chihuahua. Neither dog had a collar or identification tag.

๐Ÿ” The Clue in the Microchip

When scanned, APA staff discovered that Rome was double microchipped. Thanks to this, they were able to contact his original owners in California.

According to APA, the family was “stunned and overjoyed” to learn that their long-lost pup was alive and safe.

๐Ÿš— Journey to Reunite

Upon receiving the news, Romeโ€™s family quickly arranged to travel the 1,000+ miles to Austin to bring him home.

โ€œWe are a ball of emotion right now,โ€ they told APA. โ€œWords canโ€™t describe the heartbreak when he was gone โ€” and now, the joy of having him back is beyond incredible.โ€

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ The Importance of Microchipping

According to Human Animal Support Services, pets with microchips are three times more likely to be reunited with their owners.

Romeโ€™s story is a powerful reminder of how a small chip can make a huge difference โ€” turning a story of loss into one of joyful reunion.
