Ningbo, China – On the slopes of Daliang Mountain in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, an extraordinary friendship has blossomed between a one-armed monkey named Xing Xing and an elderly Buddhist nun in her 80s.
For more than 15 years, they have lived side by side like grandmother and grandchild, touching the hearts of millions across Chinese social media.

Xing Xing was once a performing monkey, injured by a wild boar trap and later abandoned. By chance, she found her way to Yanghu Temple, where Nun Ye Liannu took her in.

Every morning, the nun calls “Xing Xing,” and the monkey runs down from the mountain to eat. At night, she returns to the forest — keeping her semi-wild habits even after years of care.

Today, both Xing Xing and Nun Ye are still alive, though aging. The monkey, now visibly slower, remains lively and gentle.

As for Nun Ye, despite her declining strength, she continues to care for her “little friend” with quiet devotion.

Their story is a touching example of compassion and connection beyond species — where love needs no words, only sincerity.
