For many living in parts of Africa, bedtime isn’t always safe — especially when Mozambique Spitting Cobras (Naja mossambica) are nearby.

This venomous snake is infamous for causing serious bites, and what makes it particularly terrifying is how it often strikes: while victims are fast asleep in their beds.
Highly aggressive and extremely accurate, the Mozambique Spitting Cobra can spit venom up to 2–3 meters, aiming straight for the eyes — and potentially causing blindness.
But its real weapon lies in its venom: cytotoxic, meaning it destroys tissue, leading to:
- Excruciating pain
- Severe swelling
- Tissue necrosis that can result in permanent disfigurement.
Many bite victims require immediate hospitalization, long-term treatment, and in some cases, skin grafts.
What makes it worse? These snakes can silently enter homes at night, slithering across floors and bedding without being noticed.
